It is with great sadness to report that Audrey Merrington's husband, Jim, passed away in the early hours of last Thursday morning. He was one of Ringwood's stalwart bowlers of years gone by. Having retired from active bowling he was frequently seen supporting Audrey and the Ringwood Teams at the Club. A Celebration of Jim's life will be held at Cornmantle Court, next door to the Bowling Club, on Friday June 7th at 2pm. All are welcome. Anne Taylor.

Following the Clubhouse break-in on Thursday night it appears that the burglars left the scene with a nett deficit. It appears that all they took was the money from the reading books donation box but left behind two unopened bottles of San Miguel. Hopefully, they won't be back to collect their beer.

Congratulations again to Helena Webber who defeated Laura Kitcher 21-19 in her County Singles match yesterday.

Congratulations also to Mark Brocklebank who has been selected to play for Bowls Hampshire in the Middleton Cup. He successfully came through his trial match at Banister Park yesterday. His first match is next Saturday against Bowls Isle of Wight at Shanklin.

I’m back from holiday now but on Wednesday morning, yours truly was entertained at Bideford Bowling Club by Ken Lange. We had a short game, of 45-Up, as he was busy mowing the green earlier in the day and had a match in the afternoon. We had a good game which stood at 30-30 after 10 ends but, unfortunately, 4 ends later I’d lost 47-37. The game was watched by another Bideford member, Paul Debnam who recognised my Ringwood shirt. I had a chat with him after the game. An ex-Argyll member, he moved to Bideford a few years ago and fondly remembers his encounters against Ringwood in years gone by. I reeled off many names of our Ringwood stalwarts of whom he remembered well. See you soon.
